Fun on the 4th of July

When our children were little, one of our favorite places for celebrating Independence Day was at the Crescent Hill Old-Fashioned 4th of July Fair. It’s the perfect setting for families with small children, and offers many fun events and activities. Our kids always loved doing the art and craft activities, bouncing in the Moon Jumps, playing miniature golf and remote-controlled race cars. They won prizes at the Fish Pond, had their faces painted, played the water squirt game, and entered the art contest, which Caitlin won one year! There is also an arts and crafts fair with lots of vendors, plenty of delicious fair food, balloon animals, and more. Retired veterans hold a special ceremony, honoring our great nation and those who gave their lives to defend it. Live bands perform in the late afternoon and evening, and the day is capped off with a fireworks show after dark. Our family has made many wonderful memories at this fair, and it was kind of sad when they eventually outgrew it. Mike and I have even visited on our own a time or two, after the kids were grown, but it wasn’t quite the same without the excitement of little ones with us. Now that we have grandchildren, we were thrilled to be able to take them to this fair so that they could experience all of the fun and excitement that our kids enjoyed on all of those July 4th holidays. They had a blast, as did our grown children, who were able to recapture the magic through the eyes of the little ones. It was a great day!
