Camp Mimi-Pappy Whipper-Snappy

Our grandkids were unable to attend any summer camps in 2020, due to COVID, so we hosted our own summer camp experience for them, and we all had a blast! My good friend, Melissa, made the adorable T-shirts and tote bags for us, which helped to make for a true summer camp experience.

In keeping with a realistic experience, registration forms were sent to the campers, with questions such as name, age, “What’s your favorite food?” “What’s your favorite toy?” And “Who’s your favorite Mimi?”

Upon check-in, campers received their tote bags filled with goodies, such as a clipboard, binoculars, glow balls, and a few other treats.

We officially kicked off the camp with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an Ice Cream Sundae Welcome Party. That was a hit!

After ice cream, the campers decorated treasure boxes.

Next up was outside fun, including water play, baseball, basketball, and a hoola-hoop contest.

Campers enjoyed a dinner of pizza, fresh fruits, veggies and dip, and cookies.

Next, it was time to paint. Each camper decided what they wanted to paint. Auntie Catie helped with the sketching, when needed.

The Water Balloon Tennis competition was a favorite for all.

We ended the day with snack buckets and movie night.

Everyone was up, bright and early, the next morning, for a breakfast of pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, and fresh fruit.

After breakfast was over, we had a chocolate milk bubble blowing contest.

We, then, learned about some heroes of the Bible and made wooden spoon puppets of them. The campers chose to make Jesus, Esther, Joshua, and Noah.

Treasures mysteriously appeared throughout the yard while the campers were making puppets. So the next fun activity was to go on a Treasure Hunt.

After they played with their treasures for a bit, it was time for more water play and, then, time for lunch; a picnic!

We headed out on a field trip to the nearby nature preserve, where we played on the playground and went hiking. The campers used their binoculars to do some bird-watching. It was extremely hot out, so everyone was excited to cool off by playing in the creek.

The campers were given their “I Survived Camp Mimi-Pappy Whipper-Snappy” T-shirts when we returned from our field trip, and gathered all of their creations to display for the closing ceremony.

Their parents arrived for the Closing Ceremony, where they learned all that their kiddos had been doing during camp. Campers told the stories of the Bible hero puppets they created. Awards were given out for Water Balloon Tennis Champion, Best Decorated Treasure Box, Best Ice Cream Sundae, and Chocolate Milk Bubble Blowing Contest Winner.

We closed out the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance, and the campers were already making plans for next year’s Camp Mimi-Pappy Whipper-Snappy.

I think it was a hit!
