About Me

My name is Shirley Murphy. I am a Christ-follower, a wife, a mom, and a Mimi. I’ve lived most of my life in Kentucky but I’ve also lived in Evansville, Indiana, as well as in Richmond, Virginia. I founded Louisville Parent Magazine in 1992, later named Kentuckiana Family Magazine, and served as its Publisher and Editor until 2007. Being a part of a monthly magazine for all those years allowed me ample opportunity to explore my interests in writing and graphic design.  I haven’t written much since selling the publication. Now that I am an official empty-nester, I find that I miss “putting words on paper.” I’m hoping that this blog will scratch that itch. It’s a hodge-podge of words and photographs about life and love, family and friends, and a few of my favorite places.  I enjoy exploring small towns and historical places, as well as celebrating the seasons and special occasions with my loved ones. I’m simply reflecting on yesterday, celebrating today, and imagining the possibilities of tomorrow. I hope you find something inspiring, useful, or enjoyable. Please leave a comment on my blog posts so I’ll know you visited!

    1. Thank you. It was just one, with a name change when it went from a tabloid to magazine format. I always say the years I spent publishing a monthly magazine were the most frustrating and, yet, exciting ones. It was kind of like having an extra child. 🙂

  2. You write like the sister I never had, hope and joy. I still have it, but tough with Dad dying over the holidays. Thank you, Mimi. My husband got me a fancy slow-cooker for our anniversary and it takes 2.5 hours to cook oatmeal! I can do it in ten minutes on the stove with milk, maple syrup, vanilla and cinnamon. Who wants to wake up and wait that long for breakfast? 12 hours for stew? Give me my stove and oven. Cheers, you’ve got a great blog going, Dee

    1. Thank you. It’s always wonderful to meet a new sister! So sorry to hear about your dad. I would agree that waiting 2.5 hours for breakfast is certainly not idea, but I love to put something in mine before I leave for work in the morning and come home to the smell of a hot, delicious dinner waiting for me. I’m looking forward to reading more of your blogs. 🙂
